Tourism in New Zealand has been developing rapidly over the last few years. New Zealand offers an enormous diversity for such a relatively small country – nature, culture and endless adventure opportunities. Despite this rapid growth, or perhaps because of it, Tourism New Zealand is focussing on developing sustainable tourism known as «green growth». We want to do our part at Wairua.
By joining the organisation „New Zealand Tourism Sustainability“, we have commited ourselves to upholding their vision and values (see www.sustainabletourism.nz). Apart from the social and economic values, our main focus at Wairua is the environment. First and foremost we aim to retain the diversity of the rainforest by stemming the growth of non-endemic trees and shrubs. The birdlife is also important to us and we have waged war against pests that eat bird’s eggs and their young such as possums, rats, stoats and weasles. (see Blog about possum eradication).
