Coastline Port Jackson

Coromandel’s Stunning Western Coastline

05May

Ernst and I set off from Wairua to discover the 309 Road and, after visiting the Kauri grove, Waiau Falls and the Waterworks, we kept on going past Coromandel in search of the end of the road. What a drive it turned out to be – we were blown away by the amazing scenery. Ancient Pohutukawas flanked the road like aged sentinals, some with aerial roots extending down like unruly beards. The road wound around the coastline offering magnificent views across the Firth of Thames and Great Barrier Island, then climbed steeply up the lush, green hills and over to the beautiful beaches of Port Jackson and finally Fletcher Bay (starting point for the coastal walk).
