Wonderful Throws made by Masterweave Textiles at Wairua Lodge

NZ MADE ANGORA THROWS

23Aug

Whilst on a trip to Wellington to visit my Mum, I took the opportunity to visit the factory of Masterweave Textiles in Masterton where they make the most gorgeous mohair, alpaca and wool products. And I couldn’t resist purchasing some beautiful products for our guests at Wairua.

Owner and operator Lindsay Cairns took time out to show me the showroom and factory where they produce throws, knee wraps and scarves. He and his wife were amongst the very first angora goat farmers in New Zealand and in 1989 they purchased a small weaving facility to create a product for their own mohair and cashmere fibres. Lindsay is very much an innovator and on a trip through Spain, he observed a centuries old brushing technique for knitwear using the dried teasels from the thistle plant. He then devised a process and developed a machine utilising the thistles to make the luxurious light downy finish to their brushed Mohair products. And now you can enjoy the tactile pleasure of these wonderful mohair throws in our rooms– quality made right here in New Zealand.
