In Wairua we live and work in the middle of a precious rainforest. It is therefore important to us to ensure our lodge operations and life in Wairua is as sustainable as possible. A visual insight into our way of life, the preservation of biodiversity and the native bird life.

An unexpected cancellation meant that Ernst and I could set off on the 2 ½ hour journey to visit the Hobbiton Movie Set, just outside of Matamata. We have had many guests who have either just been or are on their way to visit Hobbiton, so we thought it was about time we went ourselves.

The Coastal Walkway has been on our bucket list for some time, but renovations and operating the lodge made it very difficult to take a day off. For the next stage of our ongoing renovations we will be completely updating our two-bedroom Kiwi Apartment, which we will be taking on between May and July 2020. We will be continuing the “rainforest chic” theme and completely overhauling the kitchen, bathroom and both bedrooms.

“Rainforest chic” is the design title that we have coined for the renovation of our four double rooms with ensuites. They are now light and airy, ergonomically designed to efficiently maximize space with a touch of luxury.

Our hard work is being noticed! We were delighted to receive this email in January 2019, advising us that Wairua Lodge belongs to TripAdvisor’s best 25 B&B’s in New Zealand!
